‘Welcome to Lakewood’ Event Slated for Oct. 19October 04, 2016
Want to meet your neighbors and/or get information about your new hometown?
The Lakewood Community Relations Advisory Commission is sponsoring Welcome to Lakewood event. The annual event is slated to take place at Garfield Middle School from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 19.
All are welcome and encouraged to attend — even residents who’ve been here a while. The idea is to welcome new residents and assist anyone looking for additional opportunities to make connections within the community. Welcome to Lakewood is a fun and engaging event where residents can learn more about local civic organizations, services and ways to get involved around town.
The event also provides residents an opportunity to meet various local city officials and representatives of the schools. As many as 50 local organizations will be on hand to provide information about how to get involved in the community. There will also be some locally baked goodies and some fresh coffee on the side. All those in attendance will also be provided with a packet of information all about Lakewood.
The Lakewood Community Relations Advisory Commission was established in 2005 to serve in an advisory capacity for the purpose of educating, informing and making recommendations to City officials, departments, boards and commissions on matters relating to community relations within the City of Lakewood in an effort to advance respect for diversity, bonds of mutuality and equity. Participation on the commission is voluntary and contingent upon appointment by the mayor and city council. The commission sponsors three annual events including the Diversity Potluck, the Welcome to Lakewood meet and greet, and the annual Community Conversation.
