Term Expires 12/31/25

At Large:

After serving as an appointee since February 18, 2020, Sarah Kepple began her first elected four-year term on Council in 2022, receiving the highest number of votes from Lakewood residents of any candidate in the race. Sarah’s Council peers unanimously elected her Vice President in May of the same year.

Sarah began her lifelong career in public service at Lakewood Public Library. As she continued working with diverse populations through the Cuyahoga County Public Library, she grew concerned that students served by lower funded schools were not receiving adequate access to technology to prepare them for 21st Century Careers, and she developed county-wide technology education initiatives. In 2014 she launched her business Gigalearn to bring more opportunity to more students in more places.

That strategic, entrepreneurial and tech background came in handy when she began her service on Council right before a global pandemic. Anticipating the need, Sarah wrote her first ordinance and worked with the City’s IT Department to ensure Council could meet remotely, enabling the City of Lakewood to quickly allocate federal funding for rent relief, small business support, and first responders. Sarah serves on the Small Business Task Force, organized the Restaurant Roundtable, and initiated Curbside Express Parking to help our local merchants and restaurants adapt to changing consumer behavior.

The co-founder of grassroots group Action Together Lakewood Area, one of Sarah’s greatest priorities is actively involving residents in their government. As a Councilperson, she helped launch eComment, championed closed-captioning of Council videos, and regularly publishes updates in Lakewood community forums. Sarah serves as Council Liaison to the Americans with Disabilities Act Task Force, and helped implement online reporting of accessibility concerns.

Sarah chairs the Health and Human Services Committee. When the Lakewood Youth Council brought forth a request to remove smoking and vaping from public parks, Sarah was proud to support them by co-sponsoring legislation to do just that. As Council Liaison to the Tree Advisory and Education Board, Sarah enjoys working with Lakewood environmental advocates to preserve and grow our urban tree canopy. She also serves on the Finance Committee and the Housing, Planning, and Development Committee.

Sarah and her husband Andrew live on Summit Avenue where they raised their 2021 Lakewood High School graduate and current Colgate University student Quill. Sarah holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kent State University and a Master of Library and Information Science from Drexel University.

If you have a question, concern or idea, Sarah would love to hear from you.
