Lakewood Summer Solstice Celebration Slated for June 21

May 27, 2016

There have been reports of residents spontaneously applauding as the sun sets over Lake Erie at the city’s new Solstice Steps at Lakewood Park. It’s that beautiful.

Residents will now have another reason to cheer, as the city is hosting the inaugural Lakewood Summer Solstice Celebration from 6 to 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 21.

Sponsored by the city of Lakewood, the event will feature live entertainment, food trucks and children’s activities.

“By now, most residents have had the opportunity to experience the Solstice Steps,” said Mayor Michael Summers. “This event gives our residents an opportunity to celebrate not only this connection to our city’s greatest natural resource but also to take pride in our community on the longest day of the year.”

Residents are encouraged to bring along a picnic blanket for an evening picnic, or enjoy dinner from one of the local food trucks offering lakefront fare; Barrio, The Gorilla, The Chill Pop, and The Sweet Spot are scheduled to serve food.

In addition, DJ Tom will play music from 6 to 8 p.m. and the Fireside Band will perform from 8 to 9:05 p.m.

The event is weather dependent and will be canceled in the event of rain. To keep up to date on this event go to: and follow the city of Lakewood on Facebook and Twitter.
