Lakewood Fallen Firefighter Memorial Slated to Take Place Oct. 9

September 23, 2016

The Lakewood Fire Department is hosting the Fallen Firefighter Memorial at noon on Oct. 9.

The event is slated to take place at the memorial in front of the Lakewood Fire Station No. 1 on Madison Avenue. The event kicks off National Fire Prevention Week and will honor fallen firefighters. This year’s event will also feature the oath of office to two new members and one promoted officer.

In addition, the department will also honor Terrence W. Scavone, who passed away as an active member of the department and a dedicated civil servant to the city of Lakewood for the past 30 years.

All on-duty fire personnel will gather with fire apparatus at the site of the Firefighter’s Memorial in front of the station for a brief ceremony with local officials attending.

Members of the public are invited and encouraged to attend the event. Following the ceremony, there will be an open house of the fire station, including a tour of the Fire Museum in Station No. 1 from 12:30 to 1 p.m.
