Lakewood Announces Mixed-Use Development Opportunity in the Heart of DowntownFebruary 06, 2017
The city of Lakewood has announced an exciting opportunity to redevelop a nearly 6-acre site in Downtown Lakewood into a vibrant and transformative mixed-use urban neighborhood.
On Monday, the city of Lakewood released a request for qualifications (RFQ) to completely reshape the city-owned site.
“This RFQ is the initial step in the process to redevelop the nearly 6 acre site in the heart of Lakewood,” said Lakewood Mayor Michael Summers. “The goal is to generate responses from qualified developers who are interested in partnering with the city to reimagine an entire city block of our downtown, in a manner that provides the maximum benefit to our community.”
“This development opportunity will continue to leverage Downtown Lakewood as a regionally known and thriving vibrant district.”
The city will partner with a development team to reimagine the site consistent with the Lakewood Community Vision and the development objectives outlined in the RFQ.
Redevelopment of the site will demonstrate the highest quality design and architecture, include a balanced and thoughtful mix of uses, and create Lakewood’s finest multi-functional outdoor community gathering space.
“This process is built to provide a framework for development teams to propose creative ideas that are market receptive to reshape and transform this prime real estate in the heart of downtown Lakewood,” said Bryce Sylvester, the city’s director of planning and development.
The city is hosting a community conversation to discuss the multiyear process in more detail. The discussion is slated to take place in the auditorium at Lakewood City Hall at 7 p.m. Feb. 15. Please join the city on the 15th to learn more about the process.
Interested development teams are encouraged to visit www.onelakewood.com/DowntownRFQ to access the RFQ, browse the available resources, and get updates throughout the process. In addition, the city has included a Community Input section to the development webpage to take feedback and provide a place for members of the public to ask questions.
