Fire Marshal Tim Dunphy To Become Next Lakewood Fire ChiefJuly 19, 2019
Today, Mayor Mike Summers announced that Fire Marshal Tim Dunphy will become the next Fire Chief of the Lakewood Fire Department. His appointment is effective October 1st, 2019.
Fire Marshal Dunphy excelled through the rigorous evaluation process to determine his qualifications as the new fire chief. He is a 26-year veteran of the Lakewood Fire Department. After graduating from Lakewood High School, Fire Marshal Dunphy started his tenure as a firefighter/paramedic in 1992 and was appointed fire marshal in 2011.
Fire Marshal Dunphy is married to Joanne and they have four children; Seamus, Sean, Owen, and Meghan.
“Fire Marshal Dunphy brings a wealth of talent, experience, and commitment to protecting our citizens and advancing the performance of our Fire and Emergency Medical Technician first responders” stated Mayor Summers. “His concern and desire to serve Lakewood is apparent in each and every element of his being.”
“I also wish to express my deep gratitude for the outstanding leadership of outgoing Fire Chief Scott Gilman,” said Mayor Summers.
Chief Gilman is retiring after his 41-year career as a professional firefighter /paramedic. He served in Lakewood for 38 of those years. He was appointed Fire Marshal in 1992 and Fire Chief in 2011.
“Chief Gilman is unrivaled in his intellectual pursuit of all things related to fire and emergency medical safety, stated Mayor Summers. “Fire safety is both Chief Gilman’s profession and avocation. He is a committed student of issues, events, and circumstances upon which our first responders will be called to address: 24/7/365. This deep commitment has propelled the professionalism of the Lakewood Fire Department to among the highest standards of performance in the nation.”
Mayor Summers ended his statement with “Lakewood’s citizens have and will continue to be well served and well-led.”
