The City of Lakewood is Seeking Design-Build Services for Adaptive Redevelopment of Cove Church as Intergenerational Community CenterNovember 06, 2019
The City of Lakewood is seeking a contractor-led design-build team to provide professional design and construction services for the adaptive reuse of the former Cove United Methodist Church and its surroundings for the City’s Intergenerational Community Center. The Project will consolidate the Department of Human Services from three buildings around the City into one building while expanding the capacity of unique services provided by a city government.
The existing Cove Church property is located on a 1.77-acre site. The building, constructed around 1969, is approximately 18,000 square feet. The City aims for the adaptive reuse of this site to meet and exceed the current needs of the Human Service Department. Goals for the Project include developing flexible meeting space that allows for families and residents to connect and engage with others for programming like the Family Room, the capacity for effective on and off-site meal delivery for the City’s seniors, and community meeting space.
Lakewood City Council approved the purchase of the Cove Church property in June 2019 to assist in developing solutions for stormwater management and compliance with the federal Clean Water Act. The stormwater use of this property has been incorporated into the proposed Integrated Wet Weather Improvement Plan the city submitted to the Federal and Ohio EPA. “The adaptive reuse of the former Cove Church site presents the City of Lakewood with the opportunity to create a meaningful community gathering space that will connect residents of all ages while improving ease of access to our robust Human Services,” said Mayor Summers.
City staff will hold a pre-submission mandatory walkthrough of the site on November 13th from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. Responses are due by 4:00 pm on November 25th. To review the full request for quotes, visit http://www.onelakewood.com/cove-church-redevelopment/.”
