Cleveland Marathon to Close Traffic on Lake Avenue on Sunday, May 15

May 13, 2016

The Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon will make it way through Lakewood on Sunday, May 15. That means Lake Avenue will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 6:15 a.m. to 2 p.m.

One of the largest sporting events in Northeast Ohio, the Marathon boasts more than 22,000 participants, 2,000 volunteers and tens of thousands of spectators. The race travels through Lakewood on Lake Avenue from W. 117th Street to Rocky River, then back again.

Lakewood Police will be on hand to monitor the race and allow residents’ north/south access to their homes.

“We don’t want people to be trapped in their residences,” said Lakewood Police Lt. Roger Warner. “But we’re asking residents to be patient, as there may be significant delays.”

Motorists are also reminded that no parking will be allowed along the race route on Sunday. Any remaining vehicles will be towed.
