Applications are accepted for vacant positions only, and must be submitted no later than the specified deadline date. Applications are required before applicants will be interviewed and will be kept on file for one year.

Candidates with the most suitable background will be contacted for an interview and any pre-employment evaluation. Applicants are generally notified within four to six weeks after the deadline if they have been selected for an interview, but that time may vary depending upon departmental priorities.

If you are chosen for employment, you will be required to present proof of identity and eligibility to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Following any conditional offer of employment you will be required to undergo a drug test. For certain positions, you may also be required to undergo a pre-employment physical and a non-competitive civil service examination.

PART-TIME POLICE OFFICERS

The City of Lakewood is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Police Officer. Interested applicants must submit an employment application (Click here) and resume to: City of Lakewood, Department of Human Resources, 12650 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, OH 44107.

SALARY:  Range $21.00 to $28.63 per hour commensurate with experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:  High School Graduate or possess a GED. Qualified applicants must be currently certified through the State of Ohio as a Peace Officer. To be eligible for appointment, applicants must meet all qualifications and successfully complete all phases of the pre-employment process (Certificate of Completion of Physical Agility Exam from the Cuyahoga County Community College Public Safety Training Institute; polygraph; background and oral interview). Following a conditional offer of employment, applicants shall be required to successfully complete a comprehensive medical and psychological examination, including drug screen).

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:  US Citizen; at least 21 years of age; must sign agreement that you will not smoke during employment with the City and must sign a code of ethics; must possess a valid Ohio Driver License with a good driving record (six or more points may be disqualifying). Appointees to the position of Part-Time Police Officer are also subject to all applicable provisions of law, the Charter and Ordinance of the City of Lakewood and all Departmental Rules and Regulations. Part-Time Police Officers will be expected to provide service to the citizens of Lakewood through the use of motorized, bicycle and foot patrol. Workdays, hours and work assignments will be directed by the Police Chief or designee.


SCHOOL GUARD

The City of Lakewood is seeking applicants for the part-time (approximately 2 hours per day) position of School Guard.  Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and be able to satisfactorily complete a physical examination, including drug screening, and police background check.  Salary $11.70 per hour.  Applications are available in the Office of Human Resources, 2nd Floor of City Hall, 12650 Detroit Avenue, Lakewood, Ohio or online.
