Property Maintenance Inspector I

The City of Lakewood is currently accepting applications for a Property Maintenance Inspector I to join our Housing and Building team.  The successful incumbent must have the ability to conduct property maintenance and zoning  inspections; researches street files to determine property status and ownership; ensures code and ordinance compliance; identifies violations; meets with property owners to discuss and explain code violations; recommends corrections needed for compliance; develops and sends follow-up letters to property owners; conducts re-inspections of properties; maintains and submits all inspection records; issues violation letters, requests summons; and forwards case information to legal staff for prosecution; appears in court/hearings and testifies to assist in prosecuting violators;; maintains and upgrades knowledge, skills and development by attending seminars and training programs; performs other related duties as assigned; must have knowledge of techniques of building construction; court procedures; standard arithmetic, including percentage and decimals, and calculating area, volume and related mathematical functions; recordkeeping; report presentation; filing methods; and records management techniques. May be required to perform permit inspections commensurate with Residential Building Inspection certification, or other training as necessary.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time employee.
  • Must possess an Ohio Driver License with less than (8) points and the use of a personal vehicle.
  • High school diploma or GED and one (1) to two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • May be required to participate in testing at the discretion of the City.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a police background investigation and drug screening.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This is a bargaining unit position and the incumbent may be required to work overtime pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 and Article 15 of the current negotiated agreement.  Employees may be reassigned as required.

Wage Rate:                        $40,347.78 – $44,830.87

Normal Work Hours:      7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. (M-F)
