Property Maintenance Inspector I or II

The City of Lakewood is currently accepting applications for a Property Maintenance Inspector I or II to join our Housing and Building team.  The successful incumbent must have the ability to conduct code compliance inspections, research street files to locate properties, determine property status and ownership and ensure code and ordinance compliance; identify violations, meet with property owners to discuss code violations and recommend corrections needed for compliance. The successful candidate must be able to develop and send violation letters and follow-up letters to property owners, conduct re-inspections of properties, maintain and submit all inspection records and issue summons and citations.  Must be able to prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence utilizing information technology and Microsoft, SQL and proprietary software.  Must be able to prepare documents requesting hearing, forward case information to legal staff, appear in court/hearings and testifies to assist in prosecution of violators.  The ability to maintain and upgrade knowledge, skills and development by attending seminars and training programs is required. May perform other related duties as assigned.  Must have knowledge of techniques of building construction, court procedures, standard arithmetic, including percentage and decimals, and calculating area, volume and related mathematical functions, recordkeeping, report presentation, filing methods and records management techniques.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Full-time employee.
  • Must possess an Ohio Driver License with less than (8) points and the use of a personal vehicle.
  • High school diploma or GED and one (1) to two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience; or any combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • May be required to participate in testing at the discretion of the City.
  • 1 year experience conducting property maintenance inspections (Required for PMI-2).
  • OBBS Residential Building Inspector Certification (may be interim) OR ICC Property Maintenance Inspector Certificate (Required for PMI-2).
  • Must satisfactorily complete a police background investigation and drug screening.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

This is a bargaining unit position and the incumbent may be required to work overtime pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 and Article 15 of the current negotiated agreement.  Employees may be reassigned as required.

Wage Rate:                       $35,468.79 – $44,260.21

Normal Work Hours:           7:30 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. (M-F)
