Junior Citizens Police Academy

The Lakewood Police Junior Citizens’ Academy is a six week program starting Tuesday, October 18, 2016, and continuing each Tuesday through November 22, 2016.  The Academy will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Lakewood Police Department, 12650 Detroit Avenue.

The Academy is a 6 week course for Lakewood residents attending an area high school.  The students must be in their Junior or Senior year, and interested in learning more about the Division of Police, and a law enforcement career. Classes are held once a week for 2 hours.

There is no fee to attend. During the sessions, students are presented with information from a number of speakers to familiarize them with a variety of policing issues in Lakewood. In addition to speakers from the Division of Police, Mayor Summers, and Judge Carroll will also address the class.
During the session, the students are permitted to schedule a ride-along with a patrol officer for one morning or afternoon, on a weekend or when school is not in session.

Additional requirements:

– Student must have a grade average of C or above

– Student must not have any excessive absences

– Student must not have any prior suspensions or expulsions

– Student must complete and application including signed parental consent.
