In September 2009, Bonnie Sikes, Lisa Griffis, Paula Reed and Norma Collin met to discuss capitalizing on the walkability of Lakewood. They had made fitness and nutrition priorities in their own lives, and wanted to empower others in the community to do the same. Lakewood is the perfect place for healthy living, with an extensive network of sidewalks, a great park system, and access to top-notch medical and fitness facilities. They took their ideas to the Mayor and to staff at Lakewood Hospital. They talked to the School District and other local institutions and, within eight weeks, Live Well Lakewood was formed.
