Scholarship/Financial Assistance Program

This program is designed to financially assist qualified low income working Lakewood families with a portion of the total daily cost of care for their children.

Referrals to the scholarship program are made by child care centers, Lakewood USDA Family Child Care Home providers, Lakewood City Schools, the City of Lakewood, the Lakewood Christian Service Center, child care resource specialists, and other community agencies. Upon receipt of an inquiry, the coordinator ascertains potential eligibility by telephone prescreening, schedules an interview, and verifies family need.

Scholarships are based on a sliding fee scale depending on household income. The family may choose any licensed child care center or Lakewood USDA Family Child Care Home providers in Lakewood for child care service. Eligibility and progress are reviewed annually, changes in the level of scholarship payment are made after each review, if necessary. Scholarship funds are provided by a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Lakewood.

Within the scholarship assistance program, dollars may be allocated to assist Lakewood residents who have a child while still a high school student. Please call (216) 529-5018 for more details.
