Division of Aging
Volunteer Services: (216) 529-5005
Volunteers are an important part of the programs offered by the LDHS/Aging. Volunteers help us to fulfill our mission to provide services and activities that enhance the lives of older adults by enabling them to live productively in our community. For more information, please call (216) 529-5005.
People of all ages may participate. Please join us!
- Friendly Visitors/Telephone Reassurance:
Volunteers provide companionship and support to isolated older persons to maintain the older adult's independence, ability to cope, and maintain positive self esteem. Friendly Visits are generally made as arranged with the volunteer and social worker. Phone calls provide a safety check to ensure the senior's well being.
- Growing Healthy Together:
Using puppets and props, teams of grandmas and grandpas present lessons in personal growth and development to Pre-School and kindergarten aged children. Each week throughout the school year, Lakewood children participate in this intergenerational program to promote positive self-esteem and healthy life styles. A commitment of two hours per week for a 30-week curriculum is required.
- Home Delivered Meals Volunteers:
Deliver hot, nutritious meals to homebound seniors any day during the week between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Your own vehicle, a valid Ohio Driver's License and evidence of auto insurance is required.
- Additional opportunities include:
Activity Group Leaders, Kitchen Assistants, Office Assistants, Short-term Project Assistants (flu shots, tea party, leaf raking, etc.)
