The City of Lakewood-Division of Aging and AARP will be hosting Income Tax Preparation Clinics beginning in February.  These clinics are open to anyone filing uncomplicated tax returns, regardless of age, residency, and income or whether they are AARP members.  AARP Tax Preparation volunteers will meet individually with interested participants to assist with the completion of the year’s tax returns. 

Clinics will be held at Lawther Center (West) on Mondays and Tuesdays from 12:00 P.M. through 3:30 P.M.

Appointments are by reservation only. To make a reservation, please call 216-521-1198 between the hours of 10:30 A.M. and 2:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.

The 2010 Lakewood Citizens Police Academy will be held on Wednesdays from February 3 through April 21. The Academy will be held from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Lakewood Police Department on each Wednesday.

The Citizens Police Academy is a 12-week course for Lakewood residents or people who work in Lakewood, 21 years of age or older, who are interested in learning more about the Division of Police. Classes are held once a week for 2 hours. There is no fee to attend.  During the sessions, students are presented with information from a number of speakers to familiarize them with a variety of policing issues in Lakewood. In addition to speakers from the Division of Police, the Department of Law and Judge Carroll also address the class. At the end of each session the graduates are permitted to schedule a ride-along with a patrol officer for one evening.

During holiday weeks, the Division of Refuse and Recycling collects five days worth of garbage and recyclables within the four remaining workdays by working longer days. They do not collect on Saturday or Sunday.

Assistance, which comes in the form of a 0% interest, no monthly payment second mortgage is used to assist with both down payment and closing costs.

First Time Homebuyer Seminar

• Offered once a month to prospective homebuyers.
• Mandatory to those seeking assistance through the HOME Program.
• Information provided regarding program requirements and federal lead-based paint guidelines.
• Program participants are required to visit the Department of Housing and Urban Development's website and take the Visual Assessment Training Course prior to attending the seminar.
