Mission Statement

The Department of Planning and Development coordinates long-range planning, zoning, and economic development for the City as well as administers the federal Community Development Block Grant Funds awarded to Lakewood by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Department works directly with the Lakewood Planning Commission, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Board of Building Standards/Architectural Board of Review and Sign Review Board, the Lakewood Heritage Advisory Board, and the Citizens Advisory Committee.

City of Lakewood seeks a web design firm

The City of Lakewood Department of Planning & Development (P&D) seeks a creative individual or firm to use its current brand standards to develop a web and mobile platform for Lakewood’s Community Vision (the Vision). The selected firm will work closely with P&D staff to create a design concept using the content already publicized and adopted by city council. A proposal is desired by 12 pm on Wednesday March 19th.

Startup Lakewood Announces Winners Of The 2013 Ideation Challenge

Congratulations to the two winners of the 2013 Startup Lakewood Ideation Challenge:

1. Cleveland Craft Connection – Beth Gantz & Tara Tonsetic

2. The We(e) Market – Ahmie Yeung

This year’s Business Pitch Competition included business ideas ranging from an early alarm technology system, to a parenting retail store and cooperative, to a mobile app for local search by utilizing keywords to let you discover and document everything in your city. On the evening of August 27th University of Akron Lakewood was filled with energy as a panel of 5 judges analyzed the 2 minute pitches from 5 entrepreneurs. The judges tested the entrepreneurs with a series of questions, as well as providing constructive feedback. The two winners, Cleveland Craft Connection and The We(e) Market won a prize package that included a lunch meeting with the Mayor of Lakewood, a meeting with a local venture capitalist, a full scholarship to the Fall 2013 Bad Girl Ventures program at University of Akron Lakewood, and an advertising bundle from the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce.
